The accused, who hails from Zangun community in the Numan Local Government Area of the state, was arrested by the police on July 23, 2022, for the alleged offence.
The police command in a statement by its image maker, SP Suleiman Nguroje, made available to newsmen on Sunday, said the suspect allegedly defiled his victim who was brought to him for treatment.
Sanda, it was learnt, had advised the mother of the teenage girl with mental disorder, after she was brought to him for medication, to go home, pending the time the victim would be healed.
The herbalist had, during the absence of her loved ones, carried out the act of sexually molesting the girl.
Nguroje, who disclosed the arrest, said, “The police has arrested a 62-year-old traditional herbalist for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl suffering from mental disorder, brought to the suspect for possible medication.
“The man, it was learnt, had advised her mother who brought her to the herbalist for return home pending the time he will cure girl of her ailment. Taking advantage of the mom’s absence, the herbalist allegedly had canal knowledge of the girl over the course of her five-day stay at his place.
“After raping her, according to him, the victim escaped from his premises and returned to her parent’s house. The parent who saw the traumatised girl reported the matter to the police in Numan.
“The suspect is undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, CP Sikiru Akande.”
The police commissioner in the state, CP Akande, advised the public, especially parents to be wary of questionable characters within their neighbourhoods and always seek for expert’s opinion before taking a decision especially on issues concerning health generally.
