The Italian authorities have arrested a suspect involved in the murder of a Nigerian man in Italy, Ogochukwu Alika.
Alika, a physically challenged man, was beaten to death with his crutches by the unnamed attacker while people watched and recorded the incident with their phones.
Giving an update on the case in a statement on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the suspect would be charged to court by the Italian police.
She explained that the police were working and cooperating with the Nigerian mission in Italy to ensure justice was done.
“Also, the Nigerian mMission is requesting that the Italian government provides Mrs. Alika, the widow, a good job to cater for the rest of the family, being the family’s bread winner, now,’’ Dabiri-Erewa disclosed.
The statement signed by Gabriel Odu of NiDCOM public relations unit read, “Dabiri-Erewa seized the chance to thank the Nigerian community in Italy, various organisations and individuals in Italy who have rallied round to support and raise funds for the late Alika’s family since his death.’’
Meanwhile, the NiDCOM boss disclosed that the Canadian government had identified the killer of two Nigerians at a night club in Canada.
Tosin Arowoshegbe and Chibueze Momah were shot dead at a nightclub where they worked as guards.
The NiDCOM chairman said the authorities were working to get to the root of the unfortunate incident.
