Gunmen on Sunday allegedly shot a chief, Emmanuel Bikogha, to death at the popular PTI junction in Effurun, in the Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that until Bikogha was killed, he was a prominent chief in Ughievwen Kingdom, in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.
The incident was confirmed by one of Bikogha’s palace colleagues, Freeborn Ayoma, on Monday.
However, details of what might have led to Bikogha’s killing were still sketchy as of the time this report was filed.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comments on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
In another development on Sunday, gunmen who invaded the 16 Hour Hotel at Alomilaya, Ganmo, in the Ifeodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, allegedly shot the owner of the hotel, Kayode Akinyemi, to death.
During the attack, the gunmen reportedly injured the hotel’s manager, Emmanuel Ojo, and abducted Akinyemi’s friend, identified simply as Ori.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ajayi Okesanmi, confirmed the attack in a statement on Monday.
He said, “A group of gunmen invaded 16 Hour Hotel, in the Alomilaya area of Ganmo, Ilorin, shot indiscriminately, killing the owner of the hotel, Kayode Akinyemi, 47, while his manager, Emmanuel Ojo, was seriously injured.
“A friend of the owner of the hotel, one Ori, who was with him on the day of incident, was abducted. The command’s tactical teams in conjunction with vigilante and hunters have since been mobilised to the scene to comb the surrounding bushes for possible rescue of the victim and arrest of the hoodlums.
“The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State, Amienbo Tuesday, has declared a total lockdown of the area and a result-oriented manhunt for the perpetrators of the heinous act.”
