The Kwara Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, on Tuesday, confirmed the arrest of two suspected vandals for allegedly vandalising rail tracks in Ogbondoroko village, in the Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The suspects, who were paraded in the Ilorin area of the state, were identified as Waheed Ganiyu and Mojeed Afolabi.
One of the suspects, Mojeed, 24, while speaking with our correspondent during the parade said, “It is true that the civil defence officers caught us while removing the rail tracks in the bush, I decided to steal because I have no job and I want to feed.”
The NSCDC spokesperson, Olasunkanmi Ayeni, said the suspects were caught vandalising the rail tracks around a bush in Ogbondoroko village on August 26, 2022.
Ayeni said, “We are all aware about the efforts of the Federal Government to put our rail system into use and to ensure that our transportation system in Nigeria is taken to another level.
“But we have some criminals who do not believe in this vision. At our end, we are on guard to ensure these criminals who want to make Nigeria uncomfortable are being brought to book.
“On Friday, August 26, 2022, two suspects were arrested while vandalising rail tracks along Ogbondoroko, Asa Local Government Area of the state. They have made confessional statements.”
Ayeni also paraded one suspected burglar, Shehu Nurudeen, and two receivers of stolen goods, Abdulwahab Mustapha and one Isaiah.
He said the burglar broke into a house in Wawa, in the LUBCON area of Ilorin West Local Government Area and stole a laptop, valuable wristwatch and phones.
