A patent medicine store operator identified simply as Henry has been accused of defiling an eight-year-old girl in the Karshi area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
It was gathered that the minor was sent by her ailing grandmother to purchase drugs for her at the store.
On getting to the store, the 30-year-old man allegedly lured her to the injection room where he defiled her.
A resident of the area who spoke on condition of anonymity told our correspondent that the minor’s grandmother discovered the act after searching for her when she took a long time to return from the errand.
The resident said, “It happened that around 6pm on Tuesday, September 6, an eight-year-old girl in the area was sent by her grandmother who was sick to buy drugs from a chemist. The shop is not far from their house and Hajia as we know the grandmother was expecting her to return quickly. But it took her longer than expected, so the grandmother managed to look for her.
She found her and discovered that the owner of the shop had defiled her. From what we heard from her, the man lured her to the injection room where he forcefully defiled her.’’
Contacted, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect had been arrested.
She said, “The matter was reported to us. The suspect has been arrested and he is in our custody. However, investigation is ongoing on the matter. “
