Cremonese’s Nigerian duo Cyriel Dessers and David Okereke face a tricky trip away to Atalanta who parades their compatriot Ademola Lookman in a Serie A game on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The game will be the first between both teams since March 1996, and they come into this fixture undefeated.
Atalanta defeated Monza 2-0 while Cremonese drew goalless with Sassuolo.
Atalanta, who led the log after the first five rounds in Serie A, will look to return to the top by extending Cremonese’s woes on Sunday (today) having just ended a four-game losing streak since promotion in May.
La Dea dropped to second in the log after Napoli’s 1-0 win over Spezia on Saturday.
Cremonese, lie second-bottom and have mustered just one point so far and will look to their Nigerian duo Dessers and Okereke to become more efficient if they are to reverse their fortunes.
The Grigiorossi have attempted 64 shots (13 per game on average), which is the highest total among the bottom seven sides so far — the highest tally among the division’s bottom seven sides — but have scored just four goals.
While Okereke has accounted for two of those goals scored in five games, Dessers is yet to get off the mark despite making an assist from the same number of games played.
The duo is expected to continue their partnership up front for the Cremonese in the encounter with new arrival, teenage forward Felix Afena-Gyan, handed a role on the bench.
The Serie A newcomers will aim to avoid their fifth Serie A defeat in six games.
Meanwhile, Lookman is likely to pose a threat to Cremonese in the encounter. The ex-Everton and Fulham winger has registered a goal and two assists since joining the team. He has also completed the most dribbles for La Dea this term (four) in five league matches.
The Atalanta number 11 will look to add to his tally when the Goddesses host struggling Cremonese at the weekend.
In the Ligue 1, Terem Moffi will back himself to increase his tally on Sunday against Nantes who parades his compatriot, Moses Simon at the Stade Yves Allainmat-Le Moustoir – a ground Lorient have netted five times and conceded twice in a pair of games.
Moffi has found the back of the net five times in his last four league appearances, with the Nigerian strike coming in Lorient’s 3-1 win over Olympique Lyon on Wednesday.
Nantes winless on their travels after three away games in 2022-23 and will also look to miserable streak on the road.
Only Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have found the back of the net more times than Moffi so far in the Ligue 1 this season.
Neymar scored his eighth Ligue 1 goal of the season as the champions beat Brest 1-0 at Parc des Princes on Saturday to extend their unbeaten start and reclaim top spot in the standings while Mbappe has scored seven times this term.
