The member representing Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Alhassan Rurum, has appealed to the Federal and Kano State Governments to as a matter of urgency come to the aid of thousands of residents displaced by flooding as a result of the overflow from the Tiga dam in Kano.
One of the tributes of the Tiga dam on Thursday was said to have overflowed the river bank into many farmlands and houses in the area, due to a downpour being experienced in the state.
In a statement issued by his Media adviser, Fatihu Bichi, Rurum made the appeal during a visit on Saturday to the area in the aftermath of the dam overflow that affected thousands of people in the community.
As a result of the overflow, many farms and roads were washed away while residents of surrounding villages were forced to relocate to safer places.
The statement said during the visit, the former Speaker of the Kano Assembly said according to the firsthand information he got from the victims, they alleged the blockage of the dam tributes by Hadejia/Jama’are River Basin Authority which later overflowed and wreaked havoc on the community.
‘’As a result of the dam outflow that led to flooding, thousands of residents in the communities have been displaced,’’ Rurum said.
The lawmaker promised to raise the issue at plenary of the House of Representatives for investigation and mitigation of the damage.
