Gunmen have kidnapped the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, Jerry Fwankis.
It was gathered that the PDP chieftain was abducted on Sunday evening at his residence in Tangur community of the Council Area.
The State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, John Akans, confirmed the party chairman’s abduction in a short message sent to The PUNCH in Jos on Sunday.
Akans said, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic news reaching us on the abduction of Bokkos local government PDP Chairman Hon Jerry Fwankis by unknown gunmen.
“This sad event occurred in the evening hours of today (Sunday) at his residence Tangur Bokkos local government. Let us pray for his safety.”
The Spokesman for the Plateau state Police Command, Alabo Alfred, could not be reached immediately to comment on the incident at the time of filling this report.
However, sources at the Command headquarters said the abducted chairman was rescued a few hours by the joint efforts of the police and local vigilantes who gave the kidnappers a hot chase
The source said, “There is good news coming this night that he (PDP chairman) has been rescued by the community’s vigilantes with the help of the police and other security agents. That is the latest and cheering news on the abduction of the PDP chieftain.”
