The Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha and Metropolitan of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, has donated relief items to three internally-displaced persons’ camps in Anambra State.
The three IDP camps that benefited were Crowther Camp, Onitsha; Iyiowa Odekpe Camp, Ogbaru Local Government Area; and Umuoba-Anam, Otuocha Camp in Anambra East LGA.
Food items and relief materials were distributed to the victims displaced by the flood disasters that have ravaged the state.
Some of the items distributed were a total of about 150 bags of 50kg rice, 2,000 tubers of yams, hundreds of cartons of pastries, mattresses, bags of beans, crayfish beverages and noodles.
While distributing the items, Archbishop Okeke explained that the Archdiocese was deeply touched by the flood disasters that befell them, adding that the entire Catholic faithful are also praying for them to bounce back to life.
He, therefore, charged them not to lose hope in life and confidence in God because of the disaster.
The visit by the Archbishop and distribution exercise also coincided with his 69th birthday which is to be celebrated on October 20 inside the Onitsha Correctional Centre (Prison Yard) in Onitsha.
