After they were walked over on the opening day of the second phase of the 2022 Prudent Energy Premier Handball League, Owena Kings of Ondo finally arrived in Lagos but were beaten 23-19 by Confluence Stars on Monday.
Playing their opening game, the rusty Kings were outplayed by Confluence Stars, despite putting up a good fight. They were also guilty of missing some scoring chances, while they were fatigued in the final moments of the game.
Niger United, who are hoping to return to the top of Nigerian handball, won their second game, beating Benue Baffalos 36-27. United are looking good so far, but they will have to contend with Kano Pillars and Safety Shooters for the top prize.
Tojemarine Academy, who defeated Lagos Seasiders in Sunday’s derby, also walked over Kada Stars to amass 10 goals and three points.
In the women’s category, Safety Babes defeated Plateau Peacocks 23-21 in a keenly contested tie, which could have gone either way, but the Safety Babes did enough to win the tight encounter.
Also, Defender Babes walked over Adorable Angels, who are yet to show up in Lagos for the second phase of the league.
