Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli has insisted the club are not signing any player in the January transfer window, amid interest in Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo, 37, is believed to be open to a return to Serie A, less than 18 months after leaving Juventus to move back to Old Trafford.
The Portuguese forward has struggled to break into Erik ten Hag’s first team this season, starting only six of his 12 appearances across all competitions and scoring just twice, SportsMole reports.
Ronaldo faces an uncertain future at United after he was recently axed from the first-team squad as he refused to come on as a substitute in the Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur last week.
Serie A leaders Napoli have been credited with an interest in the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who is out of contract with the Red Devils in the summer of 2023.
However, club director Giuntoli has dismissed speculation over a proposed move for Ronaldo and expects a quiet winter window for the Italian outfit.
According to SportsMole, while speaking to DAZN, Giuntoli said, “Ronaldo in January? We won’t sign any player in January. We don’t need to change anything in this team. We’re doing great and we’re not planning any signing, as of today.
“I might be repetitive, but we really are not thinking about the transfer market right now. And even if I did have to talk about it, I would say we need nothing, because there are no problems in the squad that need to be repaired.
“Things are going so well that we would not make a single move.”
Napoli have made an impressive unbeaten start to the 2022-23 campaign across all competitions, winning each of their last 11 matches, with Luciano Spalletti’s side sitting top of Serie A and Group A of the Champions League.
Victor Osimhen and summer recruit Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are two of Napoli’s standout performers so far this season and have contributed to 21 goals between them.
