The Kaduna State Government says no fewer than 152 terrorists were killed while 100 camps occupied by the criminals were destroyed in the ongoing onslaught by the military within six months, Saturday PUNCH reports.
The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who gave the figures during the presentations of security reports for the second and third quarters of 2022, held at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, on Friday, also said 74 citizens were kidnapped by bandits in the state.
According to him, several assorted weapons were recovered from bandits, terrorists and gunrunners in the six-month period.
The commissioner listed some of the weapons to include two General Purpose Machine Guns, 74 AK-47 rifles, one AK-49 rifle, nine Type 06 rifles, four light assault rifles, four Pump Action rifles.
Illicit substances seized, he said, were 2,759.891kg of cannabis, 6558.007kg of psychotropic drugs and 0.064kg of heroin.
The commissioner added that there was significant improvements of security in the general situation along major highways like the Kaduna-Abuja road were noted.
He said, “One hundred and fifty-two bandits and terrorists were neutralised by ground forces around the state. Scores more neutralised during aerial assaults on identified camps and converging points.
“Sixteen bandits and terrorists were eliminated in fratricidal clashes in Birnin Gwari and Chikun LGAs. Over 100 camps occupied by bandits and terrorists destroyed. Seventy-four kidnapped persons rescued by security forces.”
