A filmmaker, Joy Grant-Ekong, says that her new movie, ‘One Too Many’, shows that there is still hope for justice in Nigeria.
Speaking during a screening of the movie at the Africa International Film Festival, Grant-Ekong said, “The audience received the movie well, even the filmmakers who came around received it well. The story was well told. It was really believable. It even made some people cry. We shot it in Ibadan and it was not an easy experience. It was just after the #EndSARS protests. When a filmmaker gets positive reviews for one’s movie, it makes them know that their hard work is paying off. We cannot wait for it to be on the big screen. I believe people will be able to relate with the story. The movie is a reminder that there is still hope for justice in Nigeria.”
Written by Atinuke Akinde, the movie was directed by Kayode Kasum, and features actors such as Jide Kosoko, Dakore Egbuson, Funsho Adeolu, Omowumi Dada, Tope Tedela and Chimezie Imo.
Actress, Dakore Egbuson, also stated that she loved the challenge that playing a role in the movie threw at her. She said, “I usually play very strong characters; women in positions of authority. But in this movie, I played the role of a woman who is very insular. She is a librarian, and a victim of trauma. I really love that challenge because as actors, that is what we live for— to truly transform and be someone else in order to bring a story to life.”
