Sundry Markets Limited, owners of Marketsquare Supermarkets, says it has donated food items worth N10m to flood victims at the Internally Displaced Persons camp in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
A statement by the firm said the food items donated by the company included 80 bags of rice; 600 cartons of noodles; 15 bags of beans; 100 cartons of tomato paste and 20 bags of Garri.
Others include 20 kegs of groundnut oil; 50 cartons of all seasoning cubes; 100 packs of bottled water and 1000 bags of pure water.
The company’s Marketing Manager, Mr Timothy OgbemiAbati, described the gesture as one geared towards helping the displaced persons in Bayelsa State IDP camp cushion the negative impact of the recent flood incidents.
He said, “This is one of our corporate social responsibility interventions. Bayelsa people have been incredible hosts. We are concerned about their plight in the face of a ravaging flood and it is only appropriate that we reciprocate the good gesture and demonstrate that Marketsquare stands with them at this trying period of natural disaster.”’
He added that the firm remains committed to the improvement of the socio-economic conditions of its host communities and will continue to deliver CSR projects that are relevant and impactful.
