Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad and the Deji of Akure kingdom, Oba Ogunlade Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo, on Thursday confered on the insecurity in Nigeria.
Oba Aladetoyinbo, who visited his counterpart in Sokoto, appreciated the Sultan for his stabilizing role on issues of national security.
The Deji, who was accompanied by his Olori, Olufunmilayo, stated that “consistent development and economic growth will elude the nation if the atmosphere of insecurity persist.
“Your Eminence, traditional rulers must be given constitutional roles to enable us play more proactive roles in stemming budding issues that threaten our national security before they escalate into uncontrollable problems such as we now have on our hands”, the monarch said.
Speaking, the Sultan thanked the visiting traditional ruler for taking the initiative in the interest of lasting peace.
“Kabiyesi, for you to be here at this time of our history means a lot. Your presence in Sokoto speaks volume about your unrelenting quest for lasting peace and harmony in Nigeria.
“We should look at our diversity and convert it to an advantage because God almighty that allowed us to be together in the same country does not make mistakes,” the Sultan added.
The Sultan who assured his guest of his presence in Akure in September at the forthcoming Ulefunta festival, vowed to continue to consult widely and work with government and other traditional rulers across the country towards ensuring a lasting peace between herdsmen and their host communities.
On Debi’s entourage were former Secretary to Government of the Federation and forner Minister of Finance, Chief Olu Falae, Secretary to the Government of Ondo State, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, Special Adviser to Ondo Governor on Public Utilities, Engr. Tunji Ariyomo, the Edemo of Akure High Chief Afolabi Fayehun among others.
