The Niger State governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Joshua Bawa, has called on other governorship candidates to submit themselves for a drug test to enable the electorate to decide the quality of leader they want in 2023.
Bawa, who made this known in Minna on Friday said a negative test result would prove to the people that the candidates were not always under the influence of drugs.
The LP candidate also said that the call was necessary following the behaviour of some youths who were supporters of some of the candidates.
Bawa said that the NDLEA in the state would conduct the drug test and the results would be made public.
“I am ready to submit myself to the drug test and I challenge the governorship candidates in all political parties in Niger State to also submit themselves. It will enable the electorates to know the state of their candidates.”
While condemning drug abuse among the youth, he said no youth should be called a thug but a victim of a failed state.
“There is no thug in Niger State. Instead of calling these youths thugs, refer to them as youths that are victims of social challenges in society because it is not their fault that they turned out the way they are.
