Having monitored Nigerian forward, Anthony Nwakaeme, since his days at Trabzonspor, former Turkish champions Fenerbahce may dump their chase for the prolific striker for yet another Nigerian forward, Peter Olayinka, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Slavia Prague striker is in the last year of his contract and could depart the club at the end of the season.
Since his move to the Czech Republic three seasons ago, Olayinka has been brilliant for Slavia and has registered 43 goals and 23 assists in 169 appearances for the seven-time domestic champions.
The 27-year-old attacker has led Slavia to three league titles and has been a consistent performer for the club.
According to Turkish publication, Sporgundemi, former Turkish champions Fenerbahce are keen on signing Olayinka after failing to secure his services in the last transfer window.
“The successful football player (Olayinka), whom İsmail Kartal wanted to transfer during his time as the coach of Fenerbahçe, entered the agenda of the Yellow-Navy Blue people again,” the website wrote.
“İsmail Kartal submitted a report to the management for the player, whom he called “a complete team player,” and asked for his transfer.
“Unlucky for İsmail Kartal, Olayinka once again entered Fenerbahçe’s agenda. One of the alternative names of the Yellow-Navy Blues who wanted to transfer to the attack zone after Pedro’s injury was the 27-year-old football player.”
Fenerbahce currently sit at the top of the Turkish Super Lig, with 29 points after 13 games and the signing of Olayinka could prove to be a great addition to the Yellow Canaries.
Should the deal for the striker goes through, he will join another Nigerian Bright Osayi-Samuel at the club.
