Hosts Delta State won a total of 46 medals: 21 gold, 16 silver and 9 bronze to emerge overall winners in the weightlifting event of the 2022 National Sports Festival in Asaba, which ended on Saturday.
According to a statement signed by Amaechi Agbo, Media Officer,Nigeria Weightlifting Federation,Delta came tops ahead of 23 other states, including Oyo, Bayelsa, Lagos and Edo, who came second, third, fourth and fifth, in that order.
Oyo State won 11 gold, one silver and three bronze to place second, Bayelsa were third with seven gold, five silver and four bronze medals.
Lagos State got six gold, nine silver and three bronze, totalling 18 medals, to occupy fourth position, while 2021 hosts, Edo State, had a total of 17 medals: four gold, seven silver and six bronze to stay fifth.
With three gold, three silver and one bronze, Akwa Ibom State earned their sixth position, just as Abia State came seventh with two gold, two silver and one bronze medals. Kano came are eighth with two gold and three bronze medal.
Federal Capital Territory occupied ninth position with two gold and one bronze medals.
Although Plateau State recorded one gold, one silver and six bronze medals to place 10th. The weightlifting events, which held in the multi-purpose Hall of Orchid Hotels in Asaba, began December 5 and ended December 9 with medal presentations to the winners.
