The District Head of Yankuzo in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Kogo Hamza, who was shot by bandits, has died while receiving treatment in a hospital.
Hamza was shot by bandits along Tsafe Yankuzo Road and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, where he died on Saturday.
Yankuzo is the hometown of the dreaded bandit leader, Ado Aliero, who was declared wanted by the military.
An indigene of the area, Audu Mohammed, said the district head was attacked along Tsafe Yankuzo Road on Saturday while he was returning to his domain after a meeting with the Emir of Tsafe.
Mohammed said, “The bandits wanted to abduct him, but he refused to stop. They pursued him and opened fire on his car, and he sustained gunshots.
“He was rushed to Tsafe General Hospital and was later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, where he died on Saturday night.”
The state police spokesperson, SP Mohammed Shehu, could not be reached for comment as of press time.
