The Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has requested the Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, to immediately redeploy the state Commissioner of Police out of the state before the March 9 elections.
This was contained in a statement by the party’s state chairman, Salisu Mamuda Kuit and obtained by DAILY POST on Tuesday.
He explained that his redeployment will provide a plain and neutral playing level ground for free and fair Gubernatorial and state Assembly elections.
In the statement, PDP accused the Nigeria Police for the disruption of party’s zonal rally on the January 9, 2019 at Gumel and Gwaram Local Governments.
“Before the commencement of political activities in the country, the Commissioner of Police, Bala Zama Sanchi, ordered for the arrests of over 200 PDP member at various times aimed at demoralizing the party,” he said.
“They fully participated in aiding the APC by suppressing and intimidating voters and arrested over forty PDP members, which paved way for the APC to rig the election across the state.
“We believe that the continued assault on our members is out of desperation of the APC to further rig the forthcoming governorship and state assembly elections in the state.”
The statement demanded the police boss to immediately redeploy Sanchi and as well release its members unconditionally.
It said failure to do that would clearly show that the police force were not ready to protect members of the PDP in the coming gubernatorial and state assembly elections.
Responding to the allegations, CP Bala Zama Sanchi, denied supporting any political party during presidential and assembly elections.
