The House of Representatives has resolved to probe the alleged secret recruitment by Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
The resolution followed a motion of urgent importance moved by Yusuf Gagdi from Plateau State.
Moving the motion, Gagdi claimed that MDAs are engaging in recruitment excises without following the due process path.
“Note that the public and civil service is the largest employer of labour. Being the largest employers, many Nigerians try to seek employment in the MDAs.
“The FG lacks the capacity to employ all, however, there is a need for the employment to respect the federal character principle.
“These opening are not filled on the basis of federal character, rather, the use of social standing, ethnoreligious sentiments, jettisoning the federal character principle.
In his contribution, Ayika Valentine blamed unemployment for the dangerous migrations embarked on by young Nigerians, noting that the eradication of clandestine recruitment in MDAs will curtail the dangerous migration.
“What is important for the people we represent is not about the grammar but how does what we do affect them? With what is going on here, you will agree with me some of our young ones that die in deserts is because they don’t have someone in the corridors of power.
The Deputy Whip of the House, Nkiruka Onyejeocha (APC, Anambra) also corroborated the position of others who spoke before her on the matter.
The yet to be formed ad hoc committee is to report back to the House in 3 weeks for further legislative action.
