The General Supervisor of ThankGod Awaited Liberation Ministry, Ikeja, Lagos, Prophet Francis Otukwu, has appealed to Nigerians to match campaign utterances of the frontline presidential standard-bearers with their track records so as to vote for a candidate with transparent record of performance and not someone with muddled personal ambition to preside over the affairs of Nigeria at all cost.
He warned that the rising rate of inflation, high taxation amid rapidly increasing cost of living are undisputable signs that the economy is in a very bad shape and, therefore, calls for a leader with fresh ideas and hands-on experience on how to navigate the sinking ship of state out of the rot into safe waters.
Prophet Otukwu, who stated this as part of his message during the ministry’s 2022 Thanksgiving Service themed Give Thanks, God’s Mercy is Eternal, regretted that the economic and political situation in the country has also affected the Church which cannot be separated from the larger society, hence his appeal to both Christians and the general public to go out en masse and vote for a meaningful change based on vision and character rather than primordial sentiment and partisan affiliation.
His words: “The 2023 general election is critical to the survival of the nation. Nigerians cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the past when the electorate kept aloof while politicians and their hirelings manipulated the system through compromised state security operatives who watched helplessly as party agents engaged in vote-buying and harassment of voters by paid thugs of political godfathers.
“Given the disturbing increase in the ranks of impoverished Nigerians and unprecedented rate of unemployment, it may be difficult to convince people not to yield to vote-buying antics of desperate politicians. That is why the need for voter education by the social media, civil society groups and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), especially at the grassroots cannot be over-emphasised.”
