The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday said if elected the next president of Nigeria, he will end insecurity ravaging the southeastern part of the country.
Atiku, who spoke in Owerri, the Imo State capital, during the PDP presidential campaign rally in the state, said that his administration would give the Igbo people a sense of belonging in the country.
The former Vice President said his government would have a dialogue with the Igbo youth, especially on the issue of restructuring of the country.
He described himself as the only presidential candidate who had the required experience to unify the country and rescue it from bad governance which he said had become the lot of the nation under the watch of the All Progressives Congress.
Ariku said, “If I become the next President, consider it that Imo is in charge of the presidency. It is your own presidency. I will come here, sit down with you and work out a settlement. I have been associated with Igbo nation for many decades. Trading will pick up again in the South-East. I will set out $10bn to empower youth, women and men in businesses. We will provide jobs and businesses.
“The entire South-East is yearning for restructuring of this country. I will make sure that power and resources are devolved to the federating units. I assure you that. I swear to God, I will do it again because I have the experience. Don’t vote for any other party but the PDP.
“Honestly, I am impressed with the turnout in Imo State. My fellow people from Imo State, God bless you all and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
A former governor of the state, Achike Udenwa, urged the people of the state to vote for the PDP from top to bottom.
The National Secretary of the PDP, Samuel Anyanwu, who is an indigene of Imo state, expressed confidence that Atiku would win the forthcoming presidential election.
The Governor of Sokoto State and Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Aminu Tambuwal, said Atiku’s administration would end insecurity, poverty and bad governance caused by the APC administration.
The governor of Akwa Ibom State and Chairman of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Udom Emmanuel, said that the opposition party would restore sanity to government if elected.
The immediate past governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, promised Atilu that the people of the state would vote for him.
