The police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have promised to ensure robust security for the safety of lives and property during the Yuletide.
The Police Commissioner in Kaduna State, Mr Yekini Ayoku, said the command had put in place robust security arrangements for Christmas and New Year activities in the state.
The police spokesperson in the state, DSP Mohammed Jalige, said on Friday that the commissioner had ordered 24-hour high visibility patrols around every nook and cranny of the state.
He said, “The Commissioner of Police has directed all the Area Commanders and their Divisional Police Officers as well as Tactical Commanders to mobilise all operational and intelligence assets at their disposal for protection of all major highways, places of worship and recreational facilities. This is to ensure that criminals are kept at bay and denied the latitude to carry out their nefarious activities.”
He noted that the sale and use of fireworks and firecrackers in the state had been banned. He asked parents and guardians to warn their wards and keep a close watch on them to avoid running afoul of the law.
AIG promises security
Meanwhile, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 13, Mr Abutu Yaro, has assured residents of Enugu and Anambra states of security before, during and after the Yuletide. He ordered police commissioners as well as heads of tactical, intelligence and operational units in both states to provide high-level policing.
In a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nkeiruka Nwode, the AIG assured those who would ply roads and make use of airports in the states that proactive measures had been put in place to ensure that they arrive at their destinations safely. He warned traffic robbers to steer clear of the state.
“I have ordered commissioners of police as well as heads of tactical, intelligence and operational units to ensure adequate deployment of undercover and officers in uniform on highways, motor parks, worship centres and recreational/event centres,” it added.
The AIG noted that the zonal command would not fail to sanction any officer or unit/squad disrespecting fundamental human rights or flouting orders of the zonal command.
FRSC deploys personnel
The Federal Road Safety Corps in Benue says it has deployed 758 personnel to ensure a hitch-free movement of motorists during the Yuletide.
The state Sector Commander, Mr Ibrahim Abubakar, said on Friday in Makurdi that 16 patrol vehicles and three ambulances were also deployed for the exercise. He added that two functional roadside clinics had also been set up.
He added, “Our officers are visible everywhere in the state. We also have a Mobile court to sanction road traffic offenders. While on the roads, we will ensure that there are no speeding and overloading of vehicles.”
