Prof. Oluwasanumi Adepoju has urged researchers to embrace skills from other areas of knowledge in solving problems.
Adepoju who said that knowledge was universal, made this plea during Gombe State University’s second inaugural lecture and the maiden edition in the Faculty of Education.
The professor in the Department of Science Education delivered his lecture on ‘The Infrangible nature of knowledge: The need for researchers to be multipotentialites.’
According to him, knowledge exists as an infrangible whole, affirming that every researcher must be a multipotentialite, using skills in other areas of knowledge in solving challenges.
He said, “Placing my present engagements within the viewpoint of my understanding of my task as a researcher, knowledge exists as an infrangible whole.
“Every researcher must be a multipotentialite-a philosopher, a historian, a communication specialist, an ICT enthusiast, a salesperson, and a mentor, among others. Although, as researchers, we frequently approach understanding the world through the lenses of our various areas of specialisation.”
Adepoju argued that while specialisation may be good, “It no doubt has its inherent weaknesses, especially when researchers approach the world’s challenges solely from the orientation of their specialisations.”
