The call followed the unanimous adoption of a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom at the House, Unyime Idem, at the plenary on Tuesday.
The motion was titled ‘The Unfortunate Kidnapping and Disappearance of Mr. Enobong Williamson and Need for the Federal Government to Intensify Efforts in Curbing the Incessant Kidnappings in Nigeria.’
Idem expressed “concern and sadness” over the incessant kidnappings going on across the country “and most importantly and recently” in Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State.
He said, “Unfortunately, the whole community was greeted with the sad news of the kidnapping and disappearance of Mr. Enobong Williamson who, until his disappearance, was the Treasurer, Peoples Democratic Party Ward 3, Oruk Anam LGA, Akwa Ibom State.
“The House notes that on the 3rd day of November, 2022, Mr. Enobong Williamson was kidnapped by unknown men and all attempts to locate him have proved abortive. The entire community has since commenced a search for him, but no information has been obtained regarding his whereabouts.
“The House is worried that the family and associates of Mr. Enobong Williamson have been thrown into traumatic experience and agony since his disappearance on the November 3, 2022.”
Adopting the motion, the House condemned “in strong terms the kidnapping and disappearance of Mr. Williamson and other incidents of kidnapping across the country, leaving the citizens at the mercy of the kidnappers.”
The House also mandated the IGP and security agencies to “intensify efforts in securing the release of Mr. Williamson from the den of kidnappers.”
