A singer, Uwale Okoro, aka Essence, says she has grown past the level of just being an artiste. The singer, who has not been as active in the music industry as she used to be, told Sunday Scoop, “I have gone past just being an artiste. As a creative person, there is so much inside of me that the world needs to know. I do a lot of I am also a master of ceremonies.”
She also hinted that she could have a future in the movie industry. She said, “I am a thespian. I actually have a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts. It is all a part of me, and that is an area I want to explore. I attended the Delta State University with likes of Ayo Makun, the comedian. As a matter of fact, many of my schoolmates were surprised that I did not pursue a career in acting.
“For two years in my department, I was crowned the ‘best actress’. Really, there is so much God has put inside me.”
When asked about the effect of her mother’s death on her, Essence said, “No matter how old one is, one’s mum will always be one’s mum. Her death left a huge vacuum that can never be filled. I took care of her until she passed on in my arms. That experience changed me a lot. I went through a tough time, but I am still standing. I cherish her memory, and I am grateful for all the blessings she gave me in her lifetime.”
