Rugby World Cup champion, Tendai Mtawarira, popularly known as ‘The Beast’ has pledged to create opportunities for young people, especially Nigerian youths, through rugby, wealth creation and skills development to help them reach their goals.
Mtawarira is the first brand ambassador of Healthgarde International, the first global multi-level network marketing company founded by a Nigerian woman.
The Zimbabwean-South African Rugby champ known for inspiring and building the youths, spoke with GATMASH NEWS exclusively in Lagos recently, during the 2023 convention of Healthgarde International.
The former Springbok rugby player, entrepreneur and philanthropist through his foundation ‘The Beast Foundation’ which is all about giving back to the community is “focused on empowering youths across Africa, in education, sports and life skills development.”
Mtawarira, who expressed joy being in Lagos said: “I think I’ve already seen a lot of people that are struggling. I won’t call it poverty. My foundation is all about creating opportunities for young people so I see a lot of young people in the community here. I’m coming to introduce sports to them, especially rugby. I believe rugby should be in Nigeria because Nigeria got so many big guys here that can play rugby. I’d love to come here and start a rugby program sometime in the future.”
When asked why he joined forces with Healthgarde International, he said based on a shared passion for building wealth for people through wellness. “Healthgarde resonates with who I am. Firstly, I am proudly African and Healthgarde is proudly African too, started by two amazing ladies, Mama Lovelyn Nneka Nwarueze and Lovelyn Bassey.”
Speaking on how he intends to influence the marketing growth of the brand considering it’s predominantly a woman organisation, said: “Having me as the ambassador shows that Healthgarde is pivoting and trying to show that men can also be a part of the brand and be consultants. For me to endorse Healthgarde, I think is going to help a lot of men to come join as well” he said.
Mtawarira further explained that “the products are amazing. I’ve been using quite a few of them. I’ve enjoyed a boost in my immune system and energy levels because I train and gym a lot, and find myself going for longer than I used to do before. For my health and wellness is great; you don’t get sick or succumb to certain diseases if you apply their products on a daily basis.”
‘The Beast’ who was named in the Forbes Africa 2021 lists of 100 most influential Africans, said of Nigerian youths: “They must dream big in their own right. Nigeria is very blessed with a large population. The youths are our future, if the youths can believe in themselves and equip themselves with the right skills and tools, work hard, they can change the world we live in and I want Africa to reach its ultimate potential.
“So Nigerian youths must believe in themselves and not get caught up in the wrong things. Stay away from drugs, violence, crime and all the bad things associated with it and focus more on their educational pursuit and give themselves a great foundation to be successful in life.”
