…Abe has plenty enemies —PDP
The governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party in Rivers State, Magnus Abe, has alleged that there is a plot by the People Democratic Party in the state to arrest key leaders of the SDP.
He alleged the plot was in collaboration with the Rivers State Police Command.
Abe raised the alarm at the inauguration of the SDP governorship campaign council in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
He said that the move was aimed at intimidating members of the party and stampede them out of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Abe, however, called on SDP members in the state not to be afraid or intimidated by the plots, saying they must be part of the election process
While urging them to mobilise across the 23 local government areas of the state for the February 25 presidential and March 11 governorship elections, he expressed optimism that the party will win the elections in the state.
He stated, “I have received very credible report that names of the leaders and members of SDP across the State have been compiled and petitions have been completed by PDP in collaboration with some security agencies to arrest the leaders of SDP in the State.
“The plot is to intimidate our members from coming out to mobilise the people for the elections.
“I want you to be strong and not be afriad of anybody. Don’t look back but look forward to moblise our people to come out in large numbers and vote for both governorship and presidential elections.”
Continuing, Abe said,” We are not afraid. They cannot in anyway arrest about five million Rivers State people that will come out to cast their votes in both governorship and presidential elections.”
But in a swift reaction, the Director, Publicity and Communications, Rivers State PDP campaign council, Chief Ogbonnna Nwuke described Abe’s allegation as diversionary.
He said, “Abe has many political enemies, right from his days in the All Progressives Congress,” who may be after him.
Nwuke stated, “The truth is, the bitterness, anger, hate, pain and the sorrow he created, particularly in the hearts of those who lost out after spending hard earned money in the field as APC candidates in 2019, trail him everywhere he goes.
“Abe cannot claim to be unaware of this. In the SDP where he is now, Abe who has failed to embrace everyone in the party knows that he is currently facing serious opposition from a faction whose state chairman is from his area in Ogoni.”
