According to a statement on Thursday, the family made the decision known during the commemoration of the 17th anniversary of the passing of the late don and varsity administrator.
Omotola was the UNILAG vice-chancellor between 1995 and 2000. He spent 29 active years teaching Land Law, Conveyancing, and Secured Credit Transactions and was two-times the Dean of the Faculty of Law.
The prizes are N150,000 cash prize for the Best Student (Year Four) in Land Law; N150,000 for the Best Student (Final Year) in Conveyancing Law; N150,000 and N200,000, for the Best Student (LLM) in Secured Credit Transaction Law.
Speaking on the plans, his son, Adetunji Omotola, said, “I am pleased to announce that my family, through the estate of my late father, Professor Jelili Omotola, has donated N5m to the University of Lagos. The donation is for prizes in three Law subjects at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels for a period of 10 years.”
