The governors were Nasir El Rufai (Kaduna), Yahaya Bello (Kogi) and Bello Matawalle (Zamfara).
The closed door meeting is coming on the heel of the leadership of the APC and the Progressive Governors Forum on the AGF and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to respect the verdict of the Supreme Court on the naira redesign policy.
Recall that the three governors filed a suit against the Federal Government seeking a restraining order to stop the full implementation of the naira redesign policy of the CBN.
But the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing until February 22.
The friction between the governors and the president reached an unprecedented height on Friday when the APC campaign council was compelled to release a statement to debunk claim that its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, asked some APC governors to disregard the directive of the president.
The meeting, which started at about 1.35 pm took a little over an hour before all the relevant parties, departed.
Efforts to get them to address the media proved abortive as they left without discussing or giving a hint on the agenda of their meeting.
“They won’t tell you anything. The national chairman has told them to ignore you people,” a source at the secretariat said.
He also expressed the belief that it is not unconnected with the position taken by the governors and Adamu-led APC against the FG.
