CISCAES decried the rising insecurity in Ebonyi State, accusing the state governor, David Umahi, of using the disbanded Ebubeagu security outfit, to intimidate and harass the citizenry and political opponents.
Addressing a press conference on Monday tagged: “Worrisome State of Insecurity in Ebonyi State and its Dangerous Consequences Before, During and After the 2023 General Elections,” the National Coordinator of CISCAES, Kennedy Iyere, described Umahi as one who would “brook no opposition”.
Iyere alleged that Umahi was bent on imposing a candidate of his choice on Ebonyians using the outlawed Ebubeagu.
He said that despite the fact that a high court had disbanded the Ebubeagu outfit, Umahi quickly recruited the same group made up of people from various states to intimidate the citizens.
While describing Ebonyi State as the most insecure state in the entire South-East, Iyere called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), the United States and other Western countries to prevail on Umahi to stop attacking opposition parties.
He therefore called on the Federal Government to beam its searchlight on the activities of Ebubeagu in Ebonyi State with a view to ensuring a peaceful, hitch-free polls.
Meanwhile, efforts to get the reaction of the state Commissioner for Information, Uchenna Orji, were unsuccessful as several calls put across to him were unanswered. He also had yet to respond to a text message sent to his phone.
