The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has said it will deploy 102,000 officers, as part of its commitment towards ensuring a hitch-free election.
The Spokesperson for the Corps, Olusola Odumosu disclosed this to our correspondent on Monday.
Odumosu said that the safety of voters during and after election was a top priority, adding that the elections would be violent free.
He said, “The NSCDC will be deploying 102,000 officers ahead of the forthcoming elections. We assure Nigerians that the election is going to be successful, free and fair. We are working assiduously with other security agencies to ensure the security of voters and the facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission.”
Concerning the plan to deal with perpetrators of vote-buying, the NSCDC Spokesperson said, “As the political class are trying to orchestrate voting buying, security agencies are also mapping out strategies to checkmate them. Good enough, the corps alongside other security agencies including the Economic and Financial Crime Commission are part of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security. All hands are on deck to easily identify the perpetrators and nab them. Efforts are in place to reduce vote-buying and anyone caught will be arrested and dealt with.”
Odumosu added that operatives of the corps that participated in the 2022 Osun and Ekiti elections have been paid their outstanding allowances.
He said, “The week we released a statement assuring our officers that they will surely be paid, they were eventually paid the Osun allowances. Last week, they were paid the Ekiti allowances.
“The Federal Government is not owing us and the NSCDC is not owing its staff. We have paid them all. Our officers are ready for election coverage.”
