The Independent National Electoral Commission has said that the result of the presidential election held across the polling units in Lagos State will be collated on Sunday.
The state Collation Officer, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, disclosed this late on Saturday evening while briefing journalists and election observers at INEC’s collation centre in Yaba, Lagos.
Oladiji, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, explained that the postponement was due to the results which were currently unavailable.
She said, “This is a serious national assignment that has brought us together here and it is also an assignment of international importance and that explains why we have international observers here with us.
“If we follow the well laid-out procedure of INEC there won’t be any problem. We all can see that the results are not here yet and so that we don’t keep ourselves just waiting, expecting the results we have proposed that we reconvene on Sunday at 10 am and we believe that by that time, some of our results would have been released and we will be able to put these results together.”
Also speaking, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for INEC Lagos, Mr Olusegun Agbaje, said, “The collation of the presidential election will be made from the Local Governments and from there it will be spread Federal Constituencies and we have 24 in the state and then to the three senatorial districts.
“We want to thank the Heads of Departments for their continuous collaboration. Although there are hitches here and there during the presidential election, we want to ensure that as many people as possible are encouraged to cast their votes.”
