In a press statement, signed by the party’s Secretary, Hamisu Saidi Ali, the party expressed that they are disturbed by the outcome of the Kano central senatorial seat.
“For record, it is evidentially clear that Ibrahim Shekarau has officially decamped from the NNPP to the People’s Democratic Party,” the statement reads.
“Also, he has withdrawn his candidature through correspondence to INEC and the party in compliance with the Electoral Act 2022 (As amended), as well as officially informed the Senate of his decision in decamping to another party.
“In this regard, the Party New Nigeria People Party conducted a primary election within 14 days, as stipulated by the electoral Act after informing INEC of its decision to do so which produced senator Hanga, as the flag bearer for the Senate representing Kano Central in Kano State.
“Two courts of competent jurisdiction in fact the Appellate Court affirmed NNPP’s decision and ordered INEC to recognize our Candidate, who campaigned vigorously for success. We are therefore surprised that after winning the election, INEC announced somebody’s name different from our candidate’s.
“We are however appealing to our teeming supporters, across the state, to remain calm, as our legal team have commenced due processes toward claiming our mandate.”
