The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered a probe into the fire incident at Akere Spare Parts Market, Ajegunle, in the Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement signed by state Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, the governor expressed shock at the incident and commiserated with the traders who lost their goods to the inferno.
“Mr Governor, on behalf of the government, genuinely shares their grief. He has ordered a probe into the fire, which emergency workers have put out.
“Besides, Mr Governor implores Lagosians to desist from attributing the unfortunate incident to any political party or its agents. Those who are struggling to make political gains from the incident are being mischievous.
“It is shameful to take advantage of the misfortune of others to feather some political nests,” the statement read in part.
A video shared on Twitter by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Jubril Gawat, showed the moment Sanwo-Olu visited the scene of the incident to assess the situation.
