The non-governmental organisation launched the braille version of the law to enable them to read and understand the content of the law. A copy of the braille version was distributed to each of the participants.
At the launch, the Country Representative of WFD, Mr. Adebowale Olorunmola, stated that it was imperative to keep the physically challenged citizens abreast of the content of the VAPP Law so that they could understand their rights and explore the law for their protection.
He said, “The VAPP Law is enacted to protect all of us, particularly the vulnerable, including minors and people with disabilities.
“We are educating every person on the law so that everyone can understand the content and it can be implemented successfully. The law is an instrument through which we can seek justice if violated by anyone.”
In her remarks, the Executive Secretary of OSAA-GBV, Mrs. Bolanle Afolabi, said there was a need for everyone to be involved in the implementation of the VAPP Law with a view to eradicating violence against all persons.
She said, “We are sensitising the people to keep them abreast of the law, particularly their rights.”
The WFD assisted OSAA-GBV in sponsoring the sensitisation programme for people with disabilities to be informed about the VAPP Law.
“Knowing the content of the law will help us in achieving the purpose for which it was enacted,” the agency added.
The Chairman, Ondo State Agency for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities, Mr. Folasade Arise, noted in her address that their disabilities made them vulnerable. She warned people against violating people with disabilities.
Arise lauded the state government and the WFD for considering and involving them in the implementation of the VAPP law.
“This sensitisation will expose us to the content of the law and help us protect ourselves with it,” she noted.
