The Weeknd currently has almost 30 million more monthly listeners than second-placed Miley Cyrus (82.4 million).
He also comfortably outperforms Rihanna (78.5 million), Ariana Grande (80.6 million), Taylor Swift (80.2 million), Shakira (81.6 million), and Ed Sheeran, his closest male rival (77.5 million).
The Weeknd’s rising streaming figures follow the release of his “Die For You” remix, which featured Ariana Grande and went viral on TikTok.
The original version of the remixed track, which was released in 2016, also reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 list earlier in March, 2022.
It was the second time The Weeknd and Grande collaborated on a number-one remix, following 2021’s “Save Your Tears” remix, which also reached the top of the Billboard chart.
According to the music streaming platform, Spotify, The Weeknd’s 2020 track “Blinding Lights” is the most streamed track of all time, with more than 3.47 billion listens as of Monday. His song “Starboy” is also one of the most listened-to songs on Spotify.
The Weeknd has a history of breaking Guinness World Records. He received two certificates in 2016: one for having the most streamed album on Spotify in 2015, and another for having the most consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 by a solo male artist.
