The group made the demand in a press statement on Friday morning, commemorating nine years since the abduction of 276 schoolgirls from the Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State on April 14, 2014.
They added that the rescue of the girls would serve as a push to finally defeat Boko Haram, ISWAP, and to liberate the Nigerian citizens.
According to the statement, in a status report of October 2022, of the 276 abducted schoolgirls,
57 had escaped, 107 were released, 16 of them were rescued by the military, while 96 still remained missing.
They also demanded accountability from the Borno State Government, noting that after a military operation to rescue 12 of the girls in the last two years, they were yet to be reunited with their families.
The group further noted that the rescue and rehabilitation of the girls, alongside Leah Sharibu, and other victims of insurgency, will remain an undeniable legacy of the Buhari-led administration.
Part of the statement reads, “We appeal and demand that the President fulfils his promise to his daughters from Chibok to Leah Sharibu, his daughter from Dapchi, and other victims of insurgency, bandits, and kidnappers and rescue them before his term of office ends on May 29, 2023.
“The rescue and rehabilitation of our daughters whose education was interrupted and the restoration of peace in their communities will be an undeniable legacy of President Buhari’s administration.
“We are equally distressed to learn that after a successful campaign by our gallant military in the last two years when they liberated thousands of people including over 12 girls – now women – and handed them over to the Borno State Government, our daughters and sisters remain in the custody of the State and have not been properly reunited with their families, or back in control of their lives now that they are out of the hands of the terrorists.
“Have our girls escaped one form of captivity only to spend 6 months to one and a half years in a different form of captivity? What crime have they committed? Why are survivors of unimaginable trauma being treated this way?
“The BBOG also demanded psycho-social support for Chibok and other conflict-affected families of abducted students to address the trauma to families and also the provision of equipment and motivation, welfare and proper care for members of the police, armed forces and the families of officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.”
The statement further stated that the group would hold commemorative events for the girls at the Unity Fountain Abuja, and the Falomo roundabout in Ikoyi, Lagos, on the 14th and 15th of April, 2023 respectively.
