The Returning Officer for the constituency in the 2023 supplementary election, Olaniyi Babayemi, on Saturday, announced Akande-Sadipe as the winner of the rerun poll, having scored 14,891 to defeat his major challenger, Mogbonjubola Mojeed of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 13,073 votes.
The PUNCH had reported that INEC fixed April 15 for rerun election in some polling units in Oluyole and Ibadan South East/North East federal constituencies, over reported infractions which necessitated the inability of INEC to declare winners in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.
Babayemi, who made this announcement at the INEC local government collation centre, said, “The candidate of APC, Akande-Sadipe, having polled 14,891 votes, is hereby declared winner of today’s supplementary election.”
Meanwhile, Akande-Sadipe has dedicated her victory to her late mother, Abiose Akande, and the entire people of her constituency.
In an appreciation speech, the lawmaker said, “Today I dedicate this victory to God Almighty, my late mother, my husband and my family who has sacrificed a lot to allow me do this. I dedicate this to all leaders of the APC, who have stood by me and all members of my constituency.”
She reaffirmed her commitment to deliver more dividends of democracy to her constituency, pledging to rededicate herself to the service of the people.
The lawmaker said, “Serving as a House of Representatives member in the administration of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, means good tidings for my constituency.
“This victory looked like such an impossible task, especially after what happened during the first election, and then my mother died. I could not see my mother, because I was trying to protect my mandate.
“As I have been re-elected to serve you at Abuja, I will put in my very best to push our cause before the House to ensure that the dividends of democracy and opportunities available to my office reaches my constituency.
