The World Intellectual Property Organisation and United Nations Development Programme in collaboration with the Nest Innovation Hub, have stated that a robust Intellectual Property system will boost creativity, innovation and sustainable development.
The agencies stated this at a forum, themed ‘Intellectual Property and Development: Creative Ecosystem Conversation,’ which was held recently in Lagos.
The Assistant Director General, Global Challenges and Partnership Sector for WIPO, Edward Kwakwa, in a keynote address, stressed the importance of a robust IP system in the creative space.
He noted that for maximum impact, there was a need for a clear understanding of what and where the challenges lie so that appropriate measures can be taken to tackle factors limiting the promotion of creativity and innovation in the country.
He said, “Intellectual property is just as important and plays a pivotal role in developing and developed countries. That is why we should strive to use a global intellectual property system to achieve results that will be in the interest of everyone, everywhere.”
