Our correspondent reports that Gombe State had implemented the minimum wage for just state government workers due to paucity of funds.
Speaking during the commemoration of the 2023 May Day celebration at Pantami stadium where trade unions and allied bodies gathered, Bello acknowledged and appreciated the commitment and political will of the governor, Muhammadu Yahaya.
He said, “Since the minimum wage committee is a standing committee, we are appealing that the committee should reconvene with immediate effect to look imo the implementation of the minimum wage to local Government employees, the outstanding balance to some ministries in the state service and other issues associated with the implementation of the minimum wage across board in the state.”
The labour leader also reminded the governor of the need to clear outstanding gratuities, adding that every civil servant looks forward to getting his due.
“Your Excellency Sir, gratuity is the last hope of a civil servant, we appeal to you to continue the good work you are been doing for pensioners in the state by releasing more funds to settle the outstanding arrears of gratuity in the state and local government,” Bello added.
While assuring the government of continued support towards achieving its goals, the NLC also appealed for the resolution of outstanding issues in Gombe state university to enhance desired output.
On his part, Governor Yahaya who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Jatau, lauded the friendly disposition of the state workers.
Yahaya described the state’s first position in ease of doing business and the recent award by the Trade Union Congress for the pro-labour outstanding prize as legendary.
He expressed optimism that the welfare of Gombe state workers would continue to improve, as the finances of the state soar upward.
