A Nigerian lawyer, Oluwatoyin Falaiye, has said she endured sexual abuse for seven years to get an education.
In a recent chat with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, she said she was initially raped by her neighbour’s son at 10.
Falaiye said two years later, her aunty’s husband and her adopted father began to sexually molest her. She said her foster father molested her for seven years.
The activist said: “My adoptive father began to molest me. That went on night after night for seven years.”
She said she only had days off from abuse when she started menstruating.
Falaiye said she was told she would be put out of school and returned to her village if she spoke of it to anyone.
She added that enduring sexual abuse was the price she had to pay to get educated.
