Residents told The PUNCH in Jos on Thursday that the deceased included a political office seeker identified as John Mai Kyau and his son.
It was learnt that during the attack which occurred on Wednesday night, the gunmen also inflicted injuries on Mai Kyau’s wife who was rushed to a hospital in Mangu where she is currently receiving treatment.
A resident of Bureh Community, Salisu Maikudi, who confirmed the attack said the victims were buried on Thursday afternoon.
He said, “Last night, gunmen attacked our Bureh village in Mangu Halle Ward and killed two persons. Those killed were John Mai Kyau who contested to represent the Ward in the locality sometime ago. The gunmen also killed his son while his wife sustained injuries. She is at the hospital receiving treatment presently.
“So, this afternoon, we just buried the two victims who were killed during the attack.”
The lawmaker representing Mangu South in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Bala Fwangji, also confirmed the attack, describing it as “unfortunate”.
“I’m in Abuja now but my people called to inform me about the attack which led to the killing of two persons. I will visit the affected village as soon as I return. What happened is rather unfortunate,” the lawmaker said.
Efforts to get the Plateau state Police Command to comment on the attack were unsuccessful as its spokesman, DSP Alabo Alfred, did pick up his calls when contacted by our correspondent
