Players of Wikki Tourists are keeping the faith as they battle the drop on match-day 18 of the abridged 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League on Sunday (today), PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Wikki Tourists will face Lobi Stars in a season-defining game in Jos needing a win plus a favourable result in another game between Bayelsa United and Niger Tornadoes to avoid relegation.
The northeastern club are currently second from bottom of Group B with 16 points, two points behind Bayelsa United who hosts Tornadoes in Yenagoa.
Their match-day 18 opponents, Lobi Stars, have already booked their place in the Super 6, hence with nothing to play for but the tie still remains tricky as the players stare at relegation in the face, after almost a decade in the league.
“Yes, we have been positive in the team training hoping for the result to favour us by doing our best in our match against Lobi even though is not going to be easy,” captain Idris Guda told PUNCH Sports Extra.
Guda and his teammates have endured a tough campaign this season, winning just four out of 17 games so far with 4 other draws and nine defeats. The club also parted ways with coach Kabiru Dogo almost midway through the season while Abdulahi Adamu who took over the reigns also resigned few weeks later.
“It was a terrible season, one of the seasons that we don’t want to remember because of too much obstacles. The challenges were beyond our expectation but we still take it in good faith and thanking God that nobody sustained any career-threatening injury,” Guda said.
