The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, added prestige and substance to the screening of a full-length animation film titled, Gammy and the Living Things.
Produced by Utricle Studio, the movie was screened at FilmHouse Cinemas, Victoria Island, Lagos.
In a speech at the event, Osinbajo stated that there were many opportunities in the Nigerian creative sector, with a special focus on the animation industry, ‘which has a huge potential for exportable content, leading to job creation for thousands of young Nigerians’.
The producers described the film as ‘a family-friendly animation musical that celebrates the endless possibilities of Africa’. They added that the project combined Nigerian storytelling, music, and art with a Pan-African cast and global perspective.
With an accompanying 13-track album titled, Rites of Passage, it features a fascinating hybrid of song remakes by popular Nigerian artistes from the 80s and 90s, as well as original tracks.
Members of cast of the film include Joke Silva, Bimbo Akintola, Segun Arinze, Pete Edochie, John Dumelo, Ruby Gyang, Bovi, Avril, and the late Sadiq Daba.
The soundtrack album features music by 2Baba, Made Kuti, Timi Dakolo, Waje, Ric Hassani, Praiz, Johnny Drille and Goya Menor; as well as classic remakes of music by veterans, such as Blackky, Ras Kimono, Majek Fashek, The Mandators and William Onyeabor.
Guests at the event include Joke Silva, Segun Arinze and Waje.
