Her brand, founded on February 22, marks three years of craftsmanship, growth, and dedication to building a proudly Nigerian handbag label that competes with global standards.
FabulousbyMide sources its materials locally from the Mushin Market in Lagos, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to supporting Nigerian industries. Olamide describes the journey as exciting yet challenging—filled with progress, lessons, and a steady rise in visibility.
One of the major hurdles for her brand is the lack of skilled manpower in bag-making. Because many young people are not aware of the opportunities within the craft, Olamide hopes to establish a Bag-Making Academy to train aspiring artisans, create employment, and expand the industry.
However, this vision requires significant support—funding, workspace, machines, and training equipment.
She also emphasized the need for access to finance, especially as demand for her products continues to grow. Many customers want ready-to-purchase pieces, but due to limited funds, most of the brand’s bags are produced on pre-order.
Olamide explained that having more capital would enable mass production, reduce waiting time, and satisfy customers who need items urgently.
Addressing the comparison between locally made bags and imported mass-produced Chinese bags, she noted that discerning customers understand the value of quality Nigerian craftsmanship. While imported bags often use inferior materials to keep prices extremely low, handmade Nigerian bags offer durability, authenticity, and long-term value. Those who understand this difference remain loyal to homegrown brands.
