The road walk took off from Aroma Junction in Awka, through Amaku Teaching Hospital and ended at Eke Awka roundabout on Saturday.
Participants in the walk include security agents, market women and members of the Ministry of women affairs who were seen giving flyers to members of the public and educating them on the need to stop child labour.
Speaking to participants at the Eke Awka Roundabout, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo cautioned parents and guardians against using children for begging and other kinds of labour.
Obinabo said, “Anyone engaging in such act of child labour and other related offences would be severely punished and taken to court.
“Members of the public should not delay in reporting anyone seen abusing any child in the state as that would help in reducing child labour to the barest minimum.”
On his part, the Information Commissioner, Sir Paul Nwosu, charged all residents to put all hands on deck to combat child labour in the state.
Nwosu frowned at the numerous times women have maltreated their wards and warned that anyone caught doing so will not be spared.
