Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Muhammad Galadima represented by Christy Yakubu, handed down the warning on Thursday during a re-orientation program on National Core Values for Secondary Schools organised by the National Orientation Agency in Gombe.
Although the Permanent Secretary did not deter teachers from punishing students, he enjoined them to use approved methods.
“You should stop bullying in your schools. There are approved ways of punishing students, not corporal punishment,” Galadima said.
On the other hand, he urged students to avoid indecent dressing, especially female students, noting that all students should also avoid absenteeism and examination malpractice.
In her opening remarks at the event which was held at the Conference Hall of the Federal Secretariat, the Gombe State NOA Director, Adaline Patari, expressed the need for value re-orientation in Nigeria.
While urging the students and people on discipline, adding that “the state should inculcate, imbibe and internalise the National core values of Patriotism, discipline, Integrity, dignity of labour, self-reliance, social justice and religious tolerance as enshrined in chapter 2 section 23 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.”
She noted that imbibing these values will promote unity and love, peace and progress.
Religious leaders, Security agencies and relevant stakeholders at the event called on parents to be vigilant on their children.
They also urged young people to avoid bad friends, engage in sports and religious activities and say no to drug abuse, yes to life.
They commended the idea of bringing children from secondary schools to instill National Core values in them as leaders of tomorrow.
