The Ebonyi State Government, on Thursday, vowed to track down the killers of an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Emmanuel Igwe, and a farmer, Ajah Okafor.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the deceased farmer, who was the father of the National President of the Ohanaeze Youths Wing, Damian Okafor, was killed by gunmen who invaded his farm.
The assailants were said to have killed Igwe along the Mpu/Shiagu Road on Sunday and abducted his wife, who was travelling with him in the same car before invading the farm.
Reacting to the development, the state Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, on Thursday, said during the maiden state executive council briefing, the governor, Francis Nwifuru, expressed sadness over the tragedy.
He said, “Security issues are not discussed in public but the government will do everything to apprehend the perpetrators of such dastardly acts.
“The governor has given the necessary directives and soon, they would be apprehended.
“The governor recently had his first security council meeting with all heads of security agencies in attendance and the people are assured of their safety.”
The commissioner said the governor reiterated his desire to revamp education in the state and ultimately make public schools attractive.
“He charged the two commissioners in charge of primary/ secondary and tertiary education to ensure the functionality of the school system in the state.
“They were directed to ensure that public schools rank higher than the private ones and to make EXCO members and the public enrol their children in such schools. The governor also pledged to send them abroad to understudy functional education systems.”
